A Huge Start to the New Year

Got a New Years resolution? This show will certainly kick your year off in the right direction. Two critically acclaimed independent bands in a one of show right here at Laurieton Hotel.

Philadelphia Grand Jury have capped off an incredible 2009 by winning an AIR Award for Best Independent EP/Single (Going to the Casino) and scoring nominations for TWO J Awards for Album of the Year and Unearthed Artist of Year (the first artist ever to have done so).

Garnering a reputation as one of Australia's best new live bands, band members Berkfinger and MC Bad Genius have thrilled sold-out audiences across the country with their lo-fi, hi-octane performances. The Philly Jays rocked Flynns Beach surf club in February of this year and are set to be a festival favourite this weekend when they play Festival of the Sun. With their quirky in between song banter and killer dance moves. Bring your dancing shoes, ties and hats..

As you’ve probably already heard, U.K rock sensations The Boxer Rebellion are headed to our shores for their debut Australian tour this December/January playing Pyramid Rock Festival (VIC), Purple Sneakers NYE (Sydney), Southbound (WA) and supporting The Temper Trap (Melbourne). Lucky for us, The Boxer Rebellion have released their album UNION through Port Macquarie based label Cross Section, so we get to see them first hand, up close and experience what all the fuss is about! Currently tearing up Australian community radio with their singles “Evacuate” and “Flashing Red Light Means Go”, the international collective are sure to be one of the most memorable acts to hit Australia this summer.

Building a cult following in the years that followed on the back of their now-legendary live shows, The Boxer Rebellion had, by late 2008, amassed itself an army of feverishly devoted fans while unsigned. It was these fans who turned The Boxer Rebellion into an indie success story of epic proportions. The latest album ‘Union’ would knock out My Morning Jacket to claim the out #1 spot in the iTunes U.S Alternative Charts, and scrape in just behind Kings Of Leon to peak at the #2 spot in the iTunes U.K Alternative Charts.

Opening the night will be local 4 piece The Foreign Objects who have been going from strength to strength over the past 6 month including a completed EP due for release in the new year, Festival of the Sun appearance this weekend and a support slot for Grinspoon in Coffs Harbour early 2010.

Shows like this don’t come to the mid north coast very often. Tickets are strictly limited and can be purchased through www.moshtix.com.au or at Little Red Vamp (Galleria building Port Macquarie). More info at www.laurietonhotel.com.au
